Welcome to the 1st World Native Poultry Conference!

Welcome Address by President of Asian Pacific Federation of World Native Poultry Conference
12th March 2024 | Bangkok, Thailand | VIV Asia

Dear Colleagues, Researchers, Industry Experts, and Poultry Enthusiasts,
On behalf of the World Poultry Science Association (WPSA) and the Small-Scale Family Poultry Farming Working Group, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 1st World Native Poultry Conference (WNPC). This pioneering event is taking place on March 12, 2024, here in Bangkok, Thailand, as part of the prestigious VIV Asia exhibition. We are honored to have you join us as we explore the crucial role of native poultry in the global food system.
Native poultry breeds, which have been integral to small-scale family farms across the globe, are an essential part of sustainable poultry farming. These breeds, often adapted to local conditions, thrive in resource-limited environments and offer resilient solutions to the growing challenges of food security and rural livelihoods. Our conference today serves as a platform for sharing the latest research, insights, and innovations that can help unlock the potential of native poultry in enhancing food sovereignty, improving rural economies, and supporting biodiversity.
This event brings together an extraordinary lineup of speakers and participants from diverse fields of poultry science, agricultural development, and industry. Today, we are privileged to have a distinguished lineup of keynote speakers, including internationally renowned experts such as Dr. Michèle Tixier-Boichard form INRAE France, Chairperson of Conference President of World Poultry Science Association, Prof. Amonrat Molee form Thaialnd, Prof. Robyn Alders, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mukhtar, Conference Secretary & Chair of Working group-1 “Small Scale Family Poultry Farming (SSFPF)” and Dr. Fallou Gueye form Senegal, whose contributions to poultry science and small-scale farming have been groundbreaking. Their insights, along with the knowledge you all bring as attendees and contributors, will enrich our understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing native poultry farming.
Throughout the day, we will delve into key themes such as genetic diversity, disease management, breeding strategies, and the socioeconomic impact of native poultry. Each session is designed to offer valuable takeaways that can be applied to real-world farming systems, particularly in small-scale settings where these breeds play a pivotal role.

This conference is not only about exchanging knowledge but also about building partnerships. It is an opportunity for you to connect with like-minded professionals, researchers, and stakeholders, fostering collaboration to advance the native poultry sector worldwide. Together, we can shape a future where native poultry continues to thrive and benefit farmers, communities, and the environment.
Lastly, I am grateful to WPSA, the Foundation for Promoting Poultry Science Netherlands, and the VIV Asia Administration for their financial support in organizing this event
